As queer individuals, we face a number of situations /problems, life can seem quite lonely and scary. People often have no one to share their issues with, seek solace or get any sense of direction. This tends to be the case with many individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community.
Many of us in the LGBTQIQA+ community come across peers who share with us their feelings of anxiety, fear, depression, thoughts of suicide etc. These may be related to prejudice or hate from the world around us and /or to mental health issues requiring professional counseling or clinical attention.
How can we provide support to these individuals?
Firstly acknowledging the fact that such issues can be fatal and can hamper the person’s lifelong. Also, Orinam has taken the initiative to train a chosen few on the basis of peer counseling. This workshop aims to teach you the basic skills that will enable you to be more supportive of the individual’s and help them make informed decisions to overcome their distress.
