Gay Bombay is an informal, ever-evolving, and safe socio-cultural space for gay men in Mumbai. Founded in September 1998 they have organized 1000+ events ranging from art meets, to workshops, to parents meet so on and so forth.
One of the primary objectives of Gay Bombay is to provide safe spaces to the LGBT community where they can be themselves.Almost everyone reading this article will agree that the LGBT community is indeed one of the most talented community and almost everyone has some or the other hidden talent waiting to be discovered.
Keeping the same thought in mind Gay Bombay came up with the idea of providing a platform where the LGBT community in Mumbai can showcase its talent and also have a good time. That’s how GB Talent Show was born. The first talent show was inaugurated in 2014 at a popular venue in Juhu Mumbai.
The show witnessed amazing performances ranging from classical music recital to Bollywood songs. From contemporary dance forms to classical dance forms like Kathak, Bharatnatyam etc. All the performers were from within the community and it was an absolute delight to watch them perform.
The next year i.e 2015 witnessed a larger show with a bigger lineup of performances. The GB Talent show for the first time gave platform not only to budding artists but also to a musical production called Tū khwāb sajā – A love story about reincarnation and destiny across cultures, places and lifetimes. It was a huge hit not only amongst the LGBT community but amongst the allies too. The play was then presented multiple times during that year and it also made it to the list of pre-Pride events that year.
As the year passed Gay Bombay wanted to make it even bigger so 2016 saw the second serving of the then-popular -Tū khwāb sajā musical and it was named Phir Bhi Tū khwāb sajā. The show was appreciated by thousands of people across Mumbai and on social media platforms too.
